Atrazine persistence applied as commercial and xerogel formulations in oxisol Planta Daninha
Trezzi,M.M.; Marchesan,E.D.; Vidal,R.A.; Xavier,E.; Dick,D.P..
The intensive use of pesticides have contaminated the soil and groundwater. The application of herbicides as controlled release formulations may reduce the environmental damage related to their use because it may optimize the efficiency of the active ingredient and reducing thus the recommended dose. The objective of this study was to evaluate the persistence of the herbicide atrazine applied as commercial formulation (COM) and as controlled release formulation (xerogel - XER) in Oxisol. The experimental design used was split-plot randomized-blocks with four replications, in a (2 x 6) + 1 arrangement. The two formulations (COM and XER) were assigned to main plots and different atrazine concentrations (0, 3.200, 3.600, 4.200, 5.400 and 8.000 g atrazine...

Chemical Control of Glyphosate-Resistant Goosegrass Planta Daninha
TAKANO,H.K.; OLIVEIRA JR.,R.S.; CONSTANTIN,J.; SILVA,V.F.V.; MENDES,R.R..
ABSTRACT: The use of mixtures and rotation of herbicide modes of action are essential for herbicide resistance management. The purpose of this research was to evaluate different pre- and post-emergence herbicides to control goosegrass in soybean and corn. Four greenhouse experiments were conducted, one in pre-emergence and the three others in post-emergence. In pre-emergence, the number of emerged plants and the control percentage at 20, 35 and 50 days after application were evaluated. In post-emergence, the control percentage was evaluated at 14 and 28 days after application on plants with one tiller and four tillers. The use of residual herbicides to control glyphosate-resistant goosegrass is a very important tool for its effective management. The...

Leaching of Atrazine in Commercial and Xerogel Formulations in Oxisol Using Bioassay and Chromatographic Methods Planta Daninha
Marchesan,E.D.; Trezzi,M.M.; Vidal,R.A.; Dick,D.P.; Xavier,E..
Mobility of atrazine in soil has contributed to the detection of levels above the legal limit in surface water and groundwater in Europe and the United States. The use of new formulations can reduce or minimize the impacts caused by the intensive use of this herbicide in Brazil, mainly in regions with higher agricultural intensification. The objective of this study was to compare the leaching of a commercial formulation of atrazine (WG) with a controlled release formulation (xerogel) using bioassay and chromatographic methods of analysis. The experiment was a split plot randomized block design with four replications, in a (2 x 6) + 1 arrangement. The main formulations of atrazine (WG and xerogel) were allocated in the plots, and the herbicide...

Off-season management with herbicides as an alternative to reduce weed infestation in paddy rice production systems Planta Daninha
M. Oliveira Neto,Antonio; Guerra,Naiara; Noldin,José A..
Abstract Background: Weed management is a challenge in paddy rice production, mainly due to the dispersal of a population resistant to herbicides. Objective: To assess the efficacy of chemical weed control in the off-season to reduce weedy rice and other species in water-seeded or drilled rice. Methods: Two experiments were carried out in a flat field to water-seeded or drilled rice, in randomized block design. The water-seeded system treatments were organized in a split-plot design. In the plot were evaluated two water management in the off-season (with or without continuous flooding), and in the subplot nine herbicides-treatments were evaluated (Check, clomazone at 0.72 and 1.08 kg a.i. ha-1, oxadiazon at 1.00 and 1.50 kg a.i. ha-1, oxyfluorfen at...

Residual herbicides in weed management for glyphosate-resistant soybean in Brazil Planta Daninha
Lopes Ovejero,R.F.; Soares,D.J.; Oliveira,W.S.; Fonseca,L.B.; Berger,G.U.; Soteres,J.K.; Christoffoleti,P.J..
In agricultural production systems where the glyphosate-resistant soybean crop (Glycine max) is grown and the practice of crop rotation with alternative herbicides is not adopted, the exclusive and continuous use of glyphosate has led to the occurrence of resistant weed populations that may limit or compromise the benefits of this technology. Thus, the efficacy of weed management programs, including the use of residual herbicides (sulfentrazone, flumioxazin, imazethapyr, diclosulan, chlorimuron and s-metolachlor) applied in preemergence and followed by in-crop postemergence applications of glyphosate (PRE-POST) were compared to glyphosate postemergence only programs - POST. The study was conducted across nine locations during the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011...
